Help us support 6 projects in Terengganu

Sea turtles are “ambassadors of the oceans”, for conserving these animals means protecting the seas and coastal areas.  The collection of nesting numbers is vital for their conservation but has never been conducted statewide in Terengganu before HOPE initiated the Walk for Turtles campaign. The project provides invaluable data which decision makers would otherwise have. The Walk for Turtles main event is a 10-20 day walk starting annually, on World Sea Turtle Day (16th June), visiting every beach in Terengganu (mainland and islands).  The team collect invaluable sea turtle data during the walk, visit conservation projects and give awareness talks. The data can be used to identify potential new areas for sea turtle nest conservation in Terengganu.

Aim

to collect accurate turtle nesting data from all beaches in Terengganu

Objectives
1. Turtle track survey;
2. Raise awareness amongst the Malaysian people regarding turtle and marine conservation issues;
3. Raise funds for sea turtle conservation projects in Terengganu;

The future aspirations of the project is to encourage local communities to regularly survey allocated sections of beach, compiling thorough annual sea turtle nesting data.
