The work carried out by HOPE is largely supported by contributions from volunteers and donations from the general public. We don’t just ask you to donate your money for no reason. HOPE is committed to reaching our aim of doubling the nesting population of sea turtles in Terengganu and to do this we need focused projects. This is why we ask you to donate to one of our projects/events or buy us something that we need to further our work.

At present we want to raise GBP20,000 (RM100,000) by June 26^th 2010 through the 10 day Walk For Turtles event from Dungun to Kuala Besut.  The money will be shared among six projects in Terengganu including HOPE, MEKAR, Ma’Daerah, Gemia Island Resort, Chagar Hutang and Turtle Conservation Centre.

75% will go to HOPE to fund phase 1 of the project resulting in a new sea turtle hatchery at Seribu Pinang and new infrastructure so volunteers stay in the village resulting with continued economic benefits to the villagers.

25% of the donations will be given shared evenly among the other 5 projects each receiving 5%

MEKAR – MEKAR is a community led turtle conservation awareness program ran by the people of Kerteh.

Gemia Island Resort – Based on Gemia Island the resort buys turtle eggs from the local collectors so they will spend the donations on buying eggs and incubating them.

Ma’Daerah – This is another community based project in partnership with WWF.

Chagar Hutang – Sea turtle conservation project in Redang island.

Turtle Conservation Centre – Focus primarily on river turtles in Setiu, the donation will help the project to track the migration route of the river terrapins and protect the mangrove ecosystems essential for these turtles and the reefs around the islands.
