Turtles Need Trees Club
Students passively learn english as well as marine conservation
Healthy sea turtle populations are dependent on healthy beach and marine environments which can only thrive with healthy terrestrial ecosystems hence our education project name ‘Turtles need Trees’.
The aim of the project is to increase awareness amongst 8 to 10 year olds about the importance of all ecosystems and how human actions on land can affect turtles. The name alone makes you think and it is this thought of how the land and sea are connected is what we want to create. The after school clubs are run on a fortnightly basis and use English speaking volunteers along with local HOPE staff, providing a fun and educational environment which facilitates English language improvements as well as installing conservation messages.
Additional to the sessions the children will be given free t-shirts and an activity book. The activity book is used to encourage learning beyond the sessions with correct completion of relative tasks being rewarded.
The fortnightly program is supplemented by a pen pal system with Chandag primary school in the UK further enhancing the childrens English skills and confidence.

- Improve the TnT club lesson plans and associated activity book
- Create facilitators guide to TnT Club
- Start a TnT club at the school in Kampong Mangkok
Phase 2 – Terengganu – 2012-2016
- Start volunteer projects to run Turtles need trees club at various schools in Terengganu
- Start Turtle need Trees fieldtrips for various ages;
Phase 3 Malaysia 2017-2025
- Expand turtles need trees club to schools throughout Malaysia.

Activity Booklet
One of the aspects of the TnT is an activity booklet for the school children to complete when they are at home.
Why dont you download a copy yourself for your children, nephews, nieces or anybodies children. It is fun and educational for the children!!! You may even want to do it yourself!
